My child hates reading - what can I do to help?

Hearing a child say they don't enjoy reading can be discouraging, as parents naturally hope their child will find pleasure in it. Instead of applying more pressure, consider the reasons.

There are several reasons why a child might dislike reading, such as:

1) being under too much pressure

2) struggling with literacy

3) simply not enjoying reading

To spark their interest in reading, it's important to relieve the pressure. Pressure can deter them and their willingness to participate.

My approach is to help them find joy in storytelling.

I am an online storyteller, working one-on-one with children aged 7-10, guiding them from "I don't want you to read me another story" to "one more story, please."

My Zoom sessions are fun and informative, lasting 40 minutes each. If you're interested in joining, just click the link below to secure your spot. Keep in mind that spaces may be limited, so I recommend booking as soon as possible to ensure your child can participate. Just to add, a parent or carer must be present on the zoom too.

Each session is focused on word games and bringing stories to life, and engage interactively. We aren't quiet; we discuss, and if we only read one story for any reason, that's perfectly fine.

Kallia Papadopoulos is an online storyteller, who works one to one with children who feel disconnected from reading. She takes them from "I do not want you read me another story" to "one more story please".
